my wedding day
It must be wedding planning season, because lately I’ve been innundated with emails from brides-to-be asking details about my wedding. I’ve been replying to a lot of the same questions, so I thought I’d share all of my details and vendors for any brides looking for inspiration!
Far and away, the most popular questions I get are “Who makes your dress!?” and “Where can I buy your dress?!” After trying on dozens and dozens of dresses, I finally found my perfect dress in New Westminister, BC, at a boutique called Sposa. The dress is by Enzoani; it’s called “Fatima” and is part of the 2011 collection. I fell in love with the lace, the sweetheart neckline, and the soft A-line silhouette. And judging by Rhys’ expression when he first saw me, I am pretty sure he loved it too!
While visiting my mother shortly after I got engaged, she took me out shopping and surprised me with a beautiful pair of Jimmy Choos! I was so excited! I was looking for classic, comfortable shoe that I would be able to wear long after the wedding, and these were so perfect. I was also important they have a relatively short heel; my husband Rhys isn’t a whole lot taller than I am, and I didn’t want to tower over him on our wedding day.
My earrings were vintage pearls, borrowed from my mother’s jewelry box, and my rose gold bangles were purchased from Melinda Maria.
The Wedding Party
Rhys and I chose to have soft neutrals as our wedding colors, which actually made it a lot easier to look for bridesmaid dresses since we weren’t trying to match a specific color. We found them on the sale rack at BCBG…marked down to $130 from $400! The nude color and texture of the tulle fit in perfectly with our vision for a soft, romantic wedding! And let’s be honest; Melissa, Tara, Rachel and Megan absolutely rocked them.
Rhys wore a grey suit from Club Monaco, purple striped tie from Ermenegildo Zegna, and caramel shoes by Gucci (doesn’t he look SO handsome?!), while his groomsmen (his brother Jace and my brothers Brett and Davin) wore grey suits from Zara with beige striped ties from Club Monaco.
My husband Rhys is a photographer, and great photos were an absolutely must for us. Benj Haisch and his wife Maddie flew up from Seattle to take our photos, and we were THRILLED with the results. And not only were the photos amazing, but Maddie and I have become terrific friends! She’s super fashionable and loves Paris almost as much as I do.
Benj also took our engagement photos, which can be seen on his blog.
It was extremely important to have all my “beauty people” come to me and my bridal party on the wedding day, and I am SO GLAD I did it! It was such a blessing to have some of my closest friends there making my morning completely stress free. I highly recommend it.
My dear friend Amber Prepchuck did my makeup (inspired by Carrie Underwood on her wedding day), and both she and my cousin Sandy Denham did make-up on my bridesmaids. My eyelashes were done by Tracey Rosman a few days before the wedding.
My friend Tasha Arnall did my hair, the style inspired by Jessica Simpson’s hair on her wedding day.
Decor, Planning, Flowers
I’m not really a details person, but I definitely had a vision and a concept of how I wanted my wedding day to look. We hired Danielle and Ria from Stage Right Etc. who not only planned much of the wedding, but created the flower arrangements, the decorating, and handled a ton of little details throughout the day. Rhys and I wanted a soft, romantic, classy and sophisticated wedding, and Stage Right absolutely exceeded our expectations! One of my favorite things? The popcorn bar:
Our invites and signage at the wedding were all designed and printed by Jon and Jenny Adrian. We loved them so much!!! Rhys really likes typography and good design, so unique invitations were definitely important to us.
Our ceremony was held in East Kelowna on the grounds of Okanagan Villa. The ceremony overlooked orchards and vineyards below, with the lake and mountains in the background.
After the ceremony, we had a cocktail hour on the grounds of the Villa while we took some family photos! Our guests enjoyed Hendricks and Tonic and a Pimms Cup while munching on delicious appetizers.
The reception was held right after the cocktail hour at the Laurel Packinghouse, a historical building located in downtown Kelowna. Instead of a head table, Rhys and I and our wedding party sat in the middle of a long table down the center of the room so we could be right in the middle of the action. I am SO happy we did that!
Food & Wine
The cocktail hour and our four course dinner was catered and served by Cabana, one of our favorite local restaurants. The food and service from Anne and her staff was incredible…our guests still rave about it! Rhys chose all of the wines served, some of our favorites from wineries around the Okanagan Valley, including Ex Nihilo, Sandhill, and Joie.
The cake was made by my mother-in-law and was inspired by Hilary Duff’s wedding cake…are you seeing a bit of a pattern here? Yes, I did indeed search celebrity weddings for inspirations for my own.
It was such an amazing day, and I actually teared up a bit as I wrote this post, looking at all of the pictures again. Having all my friends and family around my new husband and I really did make it the wedding of my dreams!
