vancouver marathon

On Sunday May 1st I ran my first Marathon!

I’ve been running for years but have not been a runner…if that makes sense.  I’d run as a workout, but no more than 10 km, if that. A little over a year ago my friend Courtney (who is a super woman! Triathalons and marathons!) encouraged me to run the Kelowna campus to campus half marathon.

We began our training and soon I was running 21.1 km. I was shocked that I was actually able to run that distance in 1:52 and still feel really good.  I decided to make running a full marathon my 2011 goal, and I’m so glad I did! It was time consuming and at some times very painful, but it the end my body was trained and ready to run the 42.2 kms!

My girlfriends and I decided to make it a weekend of fun and we all drove down on Saturday to Vancouver. We stayed in the beautiful Four Seasons downtown and enjoyed all the amenities.

On Sunday we were up by 5 am and we were awoken by a beautiful warm sunny day in Vanouver.  The route was so beautiful and I even ran across the same area where Rhys proposed to me!  The run was amazing and it felt so good to cross the finish line at a time of 4.14.39.

Rhys even surprised me at the finish line with flowers. He had driven all morning to see me complete my first marathon! What a guy.

I’m so glad I did it and would definately do it again!
